Shakuntala with a Deer in a Glass Painting

In Hinduism Shakuntala is the wife of Dushyanta and the mother of Emperor Bharata. Her story is told in the Mahabaratha and dramatized by Kalidasa in his play Abhijnanasakuntala (The Sign of Shakuntala).

Shakuntala was very fond of her pet deer. In mythology, Shakuntala & her deer is almost inseparable.

The painting here depicts the image of Shakuntala caressing her pet deer in the forest. Shakuntala appears in hermit garb, a dress of bark with garlands of flowers.

The painting has been framed with a matching golden fiber frame.
